18+? Yes.
Other Character: Jecht, Orisa

Character

Name: Dust
Canon: Dust: An Elysian Tail
Canon point: Post-game.
Age: It's complicated. One soul is young-teenage, one is probably in his 20s, Dust's mind is only a few weeks old, but mentally and physically he's an adult.

History: It's a terrible wiki, I know. Some further insight here.

Personality:

  • Intense: Dust is always intense to some degree, even at his most casual. When focused, it becomes sharp as a blade. He was created to be a warrior, after all, no matter how his personality might have otherwise grown. At his core he is much like a blade, sharp and keen and utterly devoted to the task he is put to.

  • Righteous: From Jin's soul, Dust gains a desire to do the right thing; to be compassionate, helpful, moral, and decent. He does not tolerate injustice, and won't hesitate to cut down those who threaten others, but he'll also go out of his way to help people in need on the most trivial tasks.

  • Challenge-Seeking: From Cassius's soul, Dust gains the desire to use his strength and increase it. Dust in many ways lives for combat, only letting up on those enemies who repent immediately (such as Lady Tethys). Admittedly, most of his enemies don't give peaceful resolution a chance, but Dust also will gladly cut such offerings down, as he did with Gaius -- all but forcing the general into battle.

  • Uncertain: For most of his short life, Dust had no idea who he was, and that lack and his desire to know ate at him and undercut his confidence when he needed it most. When he finally learned the truth of his existence, even then he couldn't come to grips with it. Fidget is the one who grounded him, and who steadfastly told him that no matter what his circumstances or his souls' pasts might be, Dust is Dust. At the end of the game, when he faces General Gaius directly, does he come to grips with who and what he is, accepting it -- but then he dies.

Always Keep In Mind: Dust has literally never known a normal existence. His life, from the moment he awoke to the moment he perished, was one of battle, turmoil, confusion, uncertainty, being deceived by those he trusted, and occasional sidequests. And he knows his purpose is to be a weapon, a 'storm of vengeance' -- so denied the opportunity to be just that, he'll be lost and terribly confused.

Questions: Write an IC answer to the following questions:

What do you want to study at Diatu Magicademy?

...Magic, I guess. If I'm being totally honest, I want to find magic that I can use up close and directly, something I could fight with at the same time as I'm wielding my sword.

If you knew you could go back to the moment you left, would you leave immediately or continue your studies for a while?

That's a moot question. I died. I'm here now, so this must be where I'm supposed to be.

If your enemy was at Diatu Magicademy, how would you react?

    [Dust's fist clenches rather tightly.]

If there's one thing I know, it's that General Gaius never gave up his hatred, his unthinking genocide, of the Moonbloods. What he'd do here, I don't know, but I wouldn't allow him to poison anyone against them -- to continue his misbegotten crusade of extinction here. If that takes killing him again, than that's what it takes.

When is it acceptable to resolve a dispute by force?

That's how most disputes are resolved. Strength makes its own rules, it can only be opposed by strength. If you're not clearly stronger, then you have to fight to prove it.

What should the supreme goal of any wizard be?

To use their strength for good ends.

    Special Considerations

Your Special Something: A Rare Familiar

    Rank Your House Choice: Random

    Powers:

Dust Storm: On the ground, Dust can spin a sword in one hand with such speed that it creates a vortex of wind. This vortex is so strong it can extinguish large fires or haul in heavy items. When jumping, Dust spins the weapon around his body instead, using the wind the attack generates to send him flying around at incredible speed. In either case, the Dust Storm can amplify the power of magic exponentially -- a few magic missiles become a foe-seeking spellstorm of power, a couple of small orbs of fire become massive columns of fire several stories high, and a bolt of lightning becomes a sustained blast of electrical doom, just as canon examples. Dust cannot maintain the Dust Storm for too long, however, or he injures himself.

Platforming Skills: Dash, double-jump, iron grip (to hold onto walls covered with vines), boost jump (propelling upwards on air currents), crouch slide... the usual sort of thing.

Immortality: Dust will explicitly keep coming back so long as there is more for him to do. The end of the game is his spirit and the Blade of Ahrah taking off for his next mission, in fact.

Items: Dust has no items that are not on his person.

Anything Else: Any questions or considerations as we review your application?
